10 Cleaning Hacks to Simplify Your Life
I have kids. That statement alone can tell you a lot about me. And for someone who owns a cleaning business, going home and cleaning is not the first thing I want to do on my list. Well, I decided I wanted to try and save time. How was I going to do that? Well… why not test out some of these cleaning hacks that I often see scrolling through my social media pages? So that's what I did, and here are 10 of them that actually work!
1.Use Bar Keepers Friend to Make Your Pots and Pans Shine (do not use on non-stick areas of the pan)
I had never heard of Bar Keepers Friend before, but I did have pots and pans that, no matter how hard I tried, I could not get that shiny again from the stains. I was blown away when I tried this stuff on my pans. It took a little elbow grease, but all I did was grabbed a sponge and some water and sprinkled the Bar Keepers Friend onto the pan, then I scrubbed. Sure enough, the stains came off, and my pans looked great!
2.Make It Much Easier to Clean Your Microwave By Nuking Lemon Juice, Vinegar, and Water.
Seriously, just mix 3-parts water and 1-part vinegar into a microwave-safe bowl. Then cut up a lemon and throw it into the mixture. Then set your microwave on high for 5 minutes and let the steam sit in the microwave for 5 minutes before you open the door to clean. Now all you need is a paper towel, and everything should come right off much easier than normal.
3.The Quick Way to Clean Your Bathroom Exhaust Fan
If you have not cleaned your bathroom exhaust fan take a look at it. Chances are there is a lot of dust in it. As just a side note here, vents accumulate a lot of dust over time, and it is a good idea to get them cleaned. Yep, you know what I am going to say, We clean vents. Really though, we do a great job and you'll feel the difference.
Ok, that was my shameless plug. Now your bathroom exhaust fan can be cleaned very easily by grabbing a bottle of compressed air and simply blowing it into the fan. Be careful not to breath this stuff in of course. Once it settles to the ground, you can sweep it up with a broom no problem, and now your bathroom exhaust will be dust free.
4.Renew Your Shower Head with Vinegar
Since we are in the bathroom, let's take a look at the shower head. If you look close enough, you will probably see that there is crud stuck in the nozzles. This actually will block some enough that no water will come out. Fortunately, there is another easy trick to fix this quickly. Grab a plastic bag, and a string fill the bag with white vinegar, just enough that it covers these nozzles. Then tie the bag up to the showerhead and let it soak for 2 hours. Once the time is up, turn your shower on and enjoy that clean sparkly goodness of your refreshed showerhead.
5.Clean Your Blinds Quickly
This is a job that normally takes, oddly, much longer than it should, at least to do it right. Getting every individual blind and getting around the string is such a pain. When I tried this hack, I was very impressed with how much faster I could get this done; I would say it cut my time down by more than half. Here is what you do. You grab a pair of tongs and two microfiber towels (if you have glasses you probably have some lying around.) Wrap the towels around the two ends of the tongs and clamp the blinds between the tongs and simply pull across. Voila, clean blinds the easy way.
6.Get Pet Hair Off the Couch.
Getting pet hair off the couch is an easier process then you may think, what is not as easy to get off are those stains and pet accidents. Ok, here is one more plug for you. We are awesome at getting pet stains out of upholstery and carpet. Ok back to pet hair. All you need is a lint roller, yes I know that sounds basic, but put your vacuum down, don't work about the brush, just get the lint roller. It made a huge difference.
7.I am Going to Talk About the Lint Roller Again, it's That Good!
Ok, I know I'm doing two that could be one, but I want to emphasize how great this thing is. Getting dust our of your drapes, pillows, lampshades, and other decorative cloth is made so much easier with a lint roller. What I am trying to say is, go pick one up. You will find that it becomes one of your go-to cleaning tools.
8.Make Your Tub Shine Like New With Alcohol
It is such a pain to try and scrub the mold and mildew off of your shower and tub. Grime and mildew can be a pain when you just want to get something clean and be done with it. Well, fortunately, your pantry may be hiding a little thought about cleaner. Vodka. I know that sounds crazy, but it works! Put the vodka in a spray bottle and spray down your tub. Then wait about 10 minutes before you get back to scrubbing. You will be amazed how easily the grime comes off now.
9.Clean Your Car Headlights Without Paying an Arm and a Leg
Have you ever gone to your local oil change shop and they offer to clean your headlights? They probably will do a great job, but there is an easy way you can do it yourself for quite cheap. All you need is a tub of whitening toothpaste (just the plain white kind) and a toothbrush, yep we're going to brush your car's headlights. Just rub that toothpaste all over the headlights. In about 15 minutes we are going to scrub it with a toothbrush and watch in amazement as we polish off the gunk that was blocking light before. Kids love to color, and for some reason, it always seems they color in the wrong place with the wrong thing.
