Winter Carnival, McCall

Happy Tuesday! If you are looking for a fun family activity while your carpet is being cleaned (ok, maybe afterwards, because McCall is a bit of a drive), take a trip up to McCall this week for the Winter Carnival. We went up this weekend, and had a great time finding all of the ice and snow sculptures. It is pretty impressive what people can do with just a little bit of frozen water!

While the weather was a little dreary, raining/snowing most of the time, we thought it was a beautiful day. It was actually pretty warm, too, and so made for a great time to walk around and see the sights. We did get there a little early in the morning, and so missed all the food vendors, but it looked like there was plenty to eat and see later in the day.

I think my favorite was the Grand Marshall. I thought it impressive how big they were able to make him! My wife liked the Ship, which was the Grand Prize winner. It was pretty big, too! My oldest daughter liked the “one where we could climb to the top and slide down after waving the flag!”

All in all, it was a fun trip. We were sad to find out that Zim’s Hot Springs is closed on Monday, and we didn’t want to risk the road up to Gold Fork in our Prius, but after driving up there, we didn’t want to come back home with out a soak in a hot spring. We drove over to Idaho City, and swam in the Springs there for a bit, which was nice. Admittedly, though, taking the Harris Ranch Road in the snow probably wasn’t the smartest thing we could have done, either. But we made it!

All in all, we had a good trip, and while I wouldn’t necessarily recommend doing both trips in a day, especially when it is snowing and sleeting outside, both trips are worth taking. Enjoy!
